Why Small Businesses Are My Sweet Spot

About eight or nine years ago, my sisters asked if I would partner with them in their photography business, not as a photographer, but as a business partner. They wanted someone to handle the business management, processes, workflow… basically everything except taking the pictures.

I came in eager and excited to help them grow. I had no idea this would be the path that led me into marketing and branding. I fell hard and fast into learning what it means to build a brand, how to market, and how to sell. And here’s the thing, it worked. They got to keep doing what they loved, the photography side of things, and I discovered what I loved: the strategy behind building a brand.

A few years later, I started copywriting for small businesses and branding agencies. I wrote for all kinds of businesses— large and small, agencies and entrepreneurs, and I quickly realized something: I love working with small businesses because they are the people I can help the most.

I grew up surrounded by small business owners. My grandad was an entrepreneur before we even used that word. He moved often, starting successful small businesses everywhere he went. He was a dreamer with a practical head on his shoulders, and it was clear to everyone that God’s favor was on him.

My dad was a home builder, and my uncles and cousins all owned their own businesses. Back then, I didn’t think anything of it. It took years, even decades (yeah, I’m old), to realize how incredible it was to grow up in that environment.

Watching my grandad, my dad, and so many others build something that made a difference not only in their communities but also in their own families, that’s why this small niche of service-based businesses is my sweet spot. I’ve lived it.

Earlier this year, I made the decision to serve this group exclusively— home builders, landscapers, hairstylists, painters, bookkeepers, photographers, coaches, home organizers, interior decorators, florists, dance teachers, caterers… the list goes on.

If you’re out there hustling on your own or with a tiny team, I’m talking to you.

I love digging in to uncover why you do what you do and how you do it different than everyone else. I love to help you put that into words and build a brand around it.

I’ve never been happier or more excited about where my business is headed. And I can’t wait to help you feel the same way!
